Manchester Airport officially opened its new 1903 luxury passenger lounge in Terminal 3 this week and children aren’t allowed!
A full range of gins, ales, cider, wine and fine foods will instead be the order of the day in ‘just for adults’ haven for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main public areas in the UK’s second busiest airport. More good news too, it’s not that expensive to get in either.
Why is it called 1903?
Orville and Wilbur Wright were the two American brothers, ‘The Wright Brothers‘ and aviation pioneers who are credited with designing, building and flying the world’s very first successful aeroplane. On the 17th December 1903 the Wright brothers made the first controlled and sustained flight of a powered aircraft. Near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville piloted the petrol powered, propeller-driven biplane. It stayed in flight for and incredible 12 seconds and it covered 36.5 metres.
The adult-only 1903 lounge offers has been open to guests since April 2017. It offers a range of hot and cold food, drinks, free Wi-Fi and many other travel perks. You also get to use the fast-track airport security service. Bookings cost £35 pp and there is room for up to 71 people.
With stunning views across the entire airfield you’d be forgiven to want to spend all day there. 1903 has its own chefs who have designed an exclusively menu for the luxury lounge. The all-inclusive hot and cold food menu is carefully prepared using only the very finest ingredients. Treats such real dairy ice cream from the Cheshire Ice-cream Farm and 1833 vintage reserve cheddar can all be indulged.
